A double tube heat exchanger, also known as a concentric tube heat exchanger, is widely used in pharmaceutical and water treatment systems for efficient heat transfer between two fluids without mixing them. Its main purpose is to preheat or cool purified water, WFI, or other process fluids by exchanging heat with steam, hot water, or chilled water. It is ideal for applications requiring sanitary conditions and compact design.
Double Tube Heat Exchanger – Overview
The structure consists of two concentric stainless steel tubes: the inner tube carries one fluid while the outer shell carries the second. The fluids flow in opposite directions (counter-current flow) to maximize thermal efficiency.
CHONGYANG’s double tube heat exchangers are manufactured using high-quality SS316L or SS304 stainless steel. The inner surfaces are mechanically polished or electro-polished to meet hygienic standards (Ra ≤ 0.4μm), and all welds are orbital or TIG welded to ensure strength and cleanliness. Each unit undergoes pressure testing and quality inspections to comply with cGMP, FDA, and ASME standards. These exchangers can be integrated into purified water distribution loops or sterilization systems to maintain temperature control and minimize microbial risks.
